Promoting German cinema abroad is the main goal of the curated series, German Cinema. With box office hits and award winning films the last few years, the German film industry is at a commericial and creative highpoint. German Cinema is a springboard offering German films access to the international market. Not to be confused with the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section, most of the films shown here have already had a domestic release in Germany, but not internationally.
Heinz Badewitz, founder of the Hofer Filmtage, has been responsible for programming the series since 1977. With this series, the EFM is opening doors primarily to distributors, buyers, journalists, and programmers from festival and cultural institutions.
