At the third Berlinale Co-Production Market, a total of 44 projects from 24 countries were presented. The selection included projects by young directors such as Stefan Arsenijevic, Paula Hernandez and Tony Pemberton, as well as new films by established directors such as Jon Amiel (Copycat, Somersby), Alex de la Iglesia (Ferpect Crime, La Comunidad | Common Wealth), and Vadim Jean (Leon the Pig Farmer, Clockwork Mice, One More Kiss).
The framework programme offered financing and marketing Case Studies on Berlinale films such as Elementary Particles (Oskar Roehler, Competition) and Grbavica (Jasmila Žbanić, Competition), which later won the Golden Bear.
New programme formats such as Speed Matchings and Country Tables were successfully introduced to the 350 registered participants and offered additional contact and information opportunities.
February 14th saw the first edition of "Breakfast & Books", a pitch of books with outstanding potential for screen adaptation, followed by a seated breakfast for interested producers, together with the publishers and literary agents representing the film rights. 13 novels were presented under the title "Books at Berlinale" – which was also established as a new title for a number of activities during the Berlinale. Through Books at Berlinale, the Berlinale and the Frankfurt Book Fair want to encourage dialogue between the publishing and film worlds. Three of the projects were presented in cooperation with the Kuratorium junger deutscher Film.
