Berlinale Co-Production Market

Filmstill
The Famous and the Dead, Filmstill
The Berlinale Co-Production Market kicked off in 2004. Since then there have been innumerable pre-arranged meetings and casual encounters between professionals. The outcome of these meetings are the many films and newly started collaborations. More than 90 projects from the previous editions are already in production or completed.
In 2009, many previous projects from the Berlinale Co-Production Market were released in the cinemas or screened at festivals, among others the award-winning features Lebanon by Samuel Maoz (Golden Lion, Venice Film Festival), Lost Persons Area by Caroline Strubbe (SACD Screenplay Award, Cannes) and Amreeka (FIPRESCI Prize, Cannes).

At the Berlin Film Festival 2010, three realised projects were selected for the Official Programme: Shekarchi by Rafi Pitts (World Cinema Market 2008) was screened in Competition, Os Famosos e os Duendes da Morte/The Famous and the Dead by Esmir Filho (Berlinale Co-Production Market 2008, Generation 14plus 2010), and Susa (Talent Project Market 2008, Generation Kplus 2010).

Finished projects have also been selected for the festivals in Sundance and Cannes 2010: Contracorriente/Undertow by Javier Fuentes-Léon (Talent Project Market 2005) won the Audience Award in the World Cinema Section at Sundance, and Aurora by Cristi Puiu (Rotterdam-Berlinale Express 2008) was selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival.

Many more films are currently in production and post-production.
