The beloved Nordic Noir has evolved and one of its new flavours is dark comedy. And there is no better place to look for darkness than Finland – a nation drenched in it for six months every winter.

Why So Series? is a panel discussion between a distributor, commissioner, producer and writer about how a niche comedy genre travels and excites across territories. Audiovisual Producers Finland has brought together a panel of experts in this matter: writer Brendan Foley, producer Jackie Larkin, commissioner Arttu Nurmi and distribution executive Jean-Michel Ciszewski.

Their series Mister 8, Stop Nyqvist, Man Who Died and 66th North Precinct have delighted audiences across the world. Mister 8, the modern neo-noir of Maria (Krista Kosonen), premiered in Canneseries 2021 and came home with two of its coveted prizes: Best Series and Best Performance. Stop Nyqvist was nominated for the Rose d’Or while newcomers Man Who Died and 66th North Precinct are both distributed internationally and have already attracted wide interest.

Join us to discover the secret behind the success of dark comedy with our panel of pokerfaced masters of sarcasm!

Followed by a networking reception at Cinemaxx Lounge.
