The audiovisual sector is undergoing a period of unprecedented transformation marked by rapid concentration, intensified commodification, and shifting political and regulatory priorities.
Global streaming platforms have accelerated a move toward the large-scale merchandising of audiovisual works, reshaping film and media from culturally autonomous art forms into standardized “content” optimized for distribution, scale, and market dominance.
Europe’s audiovisual ecosystem has reached a crossroads. The convergence of platform concentration, evolving legal instruments, and shifting cultural policy raises critical questions about market power, democratic oversight, cultural sovereignty, competitiveness and the future of film as both an art form and an industry.
This high-level panel will examine how Europe can navigate these intertwined challenges and opportunities—balancing innovation and competitiveness with cultural diversity, democratic values, and regulatory effectiveness—at a moment when the very definition of audiovisual media is being reshaped.
The event includes panel discussions with public Q&A opportunities, followed by a networking reception.
