New Formats, New Opportunities: An Asian–European Perspective

Access: Market Badge

The audiovisual industry is entering a period of rapid change, shaped by new formats, shifting narratives, and evolving production practices—many of which are emerging strongly across Asian markets. In recent years, we have seen the growth of (vertical) micro-dramas, the experimentation with interactive and immersive storytelling, live-action drama formats influenced by game logic, the expansion of branded content production, and the increasing use of AI in film production. Together, these developments are changing not only how content is told, but how it is produced, financed, and circulated.

These changes are not isolated trends. They point to a broader transformation of the production landscape, where the boundaries between film, series, interactive media, and commercial content are becoming less defined, and where producers are increasingly required to rethink established workflows and production models.

In collaboration with the European Film Market, the producers association Bridging Visions (formerly Bridging the Dragon) brings together guest speakers from Asia and Europe to reflect on these developments. From a practical and strategic perspective, the panel looks at how producers are responding to a changing industry and how emerging practices may open new paths for cooperation, co-production, and shared storytelling between the two regions, at a moment when the future of audiovisual production is being actively reshaped.
